Terrain is a resource for people organising and campaigning for social and environmental
justice.
What Terrain is
Terrain was built for the 2026 Victorian state election, with a short-term aim of
preventing a landslide to the right and a longer-term idea of publishing analysis and
resources beyond the narrow electoral focus. It’s a volunteer project made by Meri
Leeworthy, unaffiliated with any party or campaign, and it follows on from earlier
projects, Radical Directory and Organ.
Terrain sources are published on the open AT Protocol network as these
Semble cards and collections. Semble is a new platform for open
sense-making, and anyone can add sources to these collections there. We’re still working
out what open community participation looks like, so if you want to be involved or you
have a question or a correction, email
hello@terrain.pub.
AI policy
This site is possible because I used open source AI models — particularly DeepSeek v4.1
Flash — to write code and to collate and summarise research, which I then iterated on and
refined. This is known to be a powerful and reliable model, but very small and efficient
compared to those by big AI labs like OpenAI and Anthropic, to whom I didn’t pay a cent.
AI is a polarising topic, so for transparency this is why I used it. There is a lot to be
rightly concerned about, but my biggest concern is its use in the rise of fascism, because
fascism means we cannot address the other concerns — environmental impact, human rights —
at all. One Nation are already willing to use AI video generation to make explicitly
racist propaganda (one example),
while corporations scramble to build data centres across the country, ramping up fossil
fuel consumption to service the likes of Palantir and the Pine Gap US military
surveillance base. I strongly support
the
Greens’ call for a moratorium on data centre construction until there are strict
legislative requirements around environmental and social impact.
As a tech worker I have gained experience using AI coding tools effectively, and this site
is an earnest attempt to make that skill useful for the left, so we do not end up in a
techno-dystopia.
Land and Country
Sovereignty was never ceded.
So-called Australia and its legal and parliamentary systems were imported by colonisers
on the basis of the legal fiction of Terra Nullius, while Aboriginal sovereignty was
never ceded. Terrain was designed and built on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the
Kulin Nation, and we pay respect to their and all First Nations elders past and present.
Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Data
Victorian Electoral Commission — electors by locality, postcode and electorate (August 2026); region composition; the 2026 electoral amendments.
Vicmap — State Assembly Polygon 2022 district boundaries.
Published research — polling, seat models and reporting, each named on the record it came from.
We reproduce figures as they were published. Where a source states a claim rather than a
measurement, we attribute it to whoever made it.
The full index lists all 708 records.
